With the warm months approaching quickly, nail trends are heating up with bright colors and flashy accessories. There is a little something for everyone - choose a subdued jelly nail or add a rainbow-tipped nail to your wardrobe for the summer months.
Become a trendsetter by combining your favorite styles to create your very own look!
1. Crystal Embellishments
There are a couple of different ways to accomplish a rhinestone-studded look.
There are limitless options when it comes to choices of crystals to add to your manicure - you can find ones smaller than a pinhead and some that are larger than a dime, in a menagerie of colors and finishes.
If you want to DIY this look, look for pre-glued stones on an online retailer like Amazon. With a steady hand, take a pair of tweezers and place the stones exactly where you want them on a freshly-polished nail. Then finish with a clear top coat to lock everything in place.
2. Chrome Finishes
Chrome finished nails have been in the spotlight for the last year now, but this summer the chrome finish is being turned up a notch.
Expect chrome finishes in colors that are as bright as neons, and some finishes that are more subdued. Take inspiration from Hailey Beiber’s “glazed donut” chrome nails as a way to add that extra “umph” to your standard manicure.
3. Rainbow Tips
If you enjoy the look of a French manicure, but if it seems too spiffy, try to jazz it up by painting a colored tip instead.
There are many ways to add color to your French manicure. You can wear this with each nail being a different color of the rainbow, or you can stick to a monochromatic theme and choose different shades of the same color - for example, pick a hot pink polish for the thumb nail and different shades of pink polishes, with the lightest color at the pinky.
4. 3-D Nail Art
Look for nails with puffy, 3-D nail art on them. Some popular themes are “croquet nails”, generally symbolized with small acrylic bows that are glued to the nail, often embellished with white and pink swirls and hearts. You can also have rhinestones added for a little extra bling.
Look for a salon that specializes in 3-D art. Artists will create shapes with a soft gel that is cured under UV light to create a shape. It’s also a good idea to give the salon a heads up that you’d like these intricate details added as nail art, since these designs do take more time and will require a skilled manicurist. Some nail technicians will even go as far as adding small toys to nails.
5. Sea-Inspired Colors
Look forward to seeing a range of greens and blues on fingertips. You can copy this trend easily at home by looking for a nail color that reminds you of a beach day. Or you can visit the salon and ask for a green-tipped manicure.
You can expect to see ocean colors ranging from a light seafoam green to a dark forest green, and everything in between!
6. Velvet Nails
Yup, you read that correctly! Velvet nails are making an appearance for the summer!
Velvet nails are created by using a (very) shimmery magnetic polish, usually over an already polished nail. The shimmery “velvet” effect is then created by the manicurist waving a U magnet over the painted magnetic polish. This is what creates the illusion that the nail color is changing every time the light shifts over them.
7. Jelly Nails
With Y2K trends coming back in full force, nails are no exception.
You can achieve this look at home by looking for a jelly finish polish at the store, or add a couple of drops of your choice of colored polish to clear polish to create that perfect milky-sheer color. There is also the option of picking up jelly press-on nails at your local Walgreens.
These nail trends for Summer 2024 are fun, futuristic and a little funky. Combine trends to make them your own!
